Objectives of the European Plant Conservation Strategy
Gentiana verna
The concrete and measurable targets of the European Plant Conservation Strategy (EPCS) are sorted under five main objectives:
1. Understanding and documenting plant diversity;
2. Conserving plant diversity;
3. Using plant diversity sustainably;
4. Promoting education and awareness about plant diversity;
5. Building capacity for the conservation of plant diversity.
These are the key areas in which activities for the protection of wild plant diversity is urgently needed.
The Global Strategy for Plant Conservation (GSPC) lists its more general targets under the same five objectives, which ensures adequate linkages between the more general global strategy targets, and more concise targets of the European strategy.
By clicking on each target, you can find out more about the problems behind each objective and how the European Plant Conservation Strategy attempts to tackle this difficulty to facilitate positive changes for wild plants in Europe.
